WorkInCulture is seeking to tender the services of a researcher to contribute to a deeper understanding of precarity as it relates to artists & cultural workers in Ontario. WorkInCulture is the leader of a consortium of cross-sectoral leaders who are undertaking this critically important work.
WorkInCulture is seeking an experienced researcher to develop a scoping document to assist in the group’s effort to develop a better understanding of potential approaches and strategies that have been deployed to address the various dimensions of precarity faced by individuals in Ontario’s arts and culture community. This work should be reflective of the group’s understanding of precarity as a term that includes more dimensions than solely income, and may include things like quality of life, access to meaningful employment opportunities, access to housing, transit and childcare, etc.
Through this RFP process, WorkInCulture and the Leadership Group are looking to hire a researcher who can develop an extensive environmental scan that the collective can utilize to guide its strategy moving forward. This environmental scan is intended to be a comprehensive, scan of the existing body of knowledge surrounding the understanding of precarity and how it relates to the precarious nature of work for artists and cultural workers. It is expected that the selected consultant/researcher will have the ability to identify, obtain and analyze a variety of sources, including material from international jurisdictions.
