Saskatoon Public Library (SPL) seeks to retain a Theatre Consultant to provide theatre consulting services for the New Central Library Project in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan.
This scope of work includes theatre consulting services from design through construction administration services for a proposed 200-seat auditorium and 100-seat children’s theatre.
Saskatoon Public Library is located on Treaty 6 territory and the homeland of the Métis in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. Saskatoon is a growing and diverse urban community with a population of 278,000 and plans to grow to 500,000.
Saskatoon Public Library has been enriching the community by inspiring discovery, curiosity and creativity through the sharing of spaces, experiences and ideas for over 100 years. Saskatoon Public Library is comprised of a central library and eight library locations. Governed by a volunteer board, it operates under the Public Libraries Act, 1996.
Each year the demand for library service in Saskatoon grows. In 2019:
• 134,302 (49%) of Saskatoon residents were members.
• Program attendance reached a record at 104,608.
• There were 438,355 public computer sessions.
• Over 3.5 million items were circulated.
• Patrons saved over $46 million by borrowing materials.
In 2016, SPL released a Strategic Plan with a vision to change lives through community connections, engagement, and inclusivity. The Plan sets forth an exciting and ambitious vision of growth, modernization, and cultural progress. In pursuit of their vision, SPL has been readying the organization for the future, making the necessary changes to ensure the library has the ability and capacity to create strategic and sustained positive community impact for future generations.
A new central library, with a planned opening in summer of 2026, is fundamental to delivering on SPL’s vision and a critical piece of the long-term plan to address the population growth and increased service demands.
