This policy is created in the spirit of encouraging professionalism among arts consultants and promoting our profession to the arts community. The consultant who does pro bono work is just as responsible for their professional conduct, ethics and liability as if they were being paid. Please refer to the ACCA Code of Professional Conduct. Sometimes consultants may do pro bono work as an investment in a future relationship with a paying client, as follow up with a former client or in a volunteer capacity.
ACCA members can do pro bono work however, members must do so only under the following terms;
The consultant will let the client know that they are a member of ACCA and refer the client to our website for further information.
A member cannot offer services for free when a request for proposals or similar callout for paid professional services has been made or when the client has already begun discussion with another consultant for paid work.
It is highly recommended that a written agreement between parties be in place clearly stating the nature of the project, the services and the scope of those services being provided as well as a time frame and any deferred payment agreement should the pro bono work be done in preparation for paid work if it proceeds.
