OAC’s current strategic plan, Vital Arts and Public Value, outlined our long-term vision and identified four goals and related strategies to guide our work over a five-year span. The goals reflected the two themes of the mandate: to serve both the arts community and the public. The plan also confirmed the following six strategic priority groups: Artists of colour, Deaf artists and artists with disabilities, francophone artists, Indigenous artists, new generation artists, and artists and arts organizations located in regions across Ontario. The current plan, originally intended to see OAC through to the end of 2020, will be in place until the end of 2021. OAC is embarking on a strategic planning process, with the goal of developing a new five year strategic plan to be completed by the end of September 2021.
We anticipate a planning process that helps us to consider our principles, values, priorities, goals and strategies within the current and emerging environment, casts a vision for OAC into the future, and serves us as a guide in making wise choices for going forward. Some of the principles and underlying values of the earlier strategic plan may still be valid and may not require wholesale replacement. However, the environment has changed greatly since the current plan was created – for OAC, for the arts sector, and in society in general. Most notably, COVID-19 has had devastating impacts on Ontario’s arts sector, and recent events have put increased focus on equity issues in response to anti-Black and anti-Indigenous racism. A challenge for the new plan will be to appropriately address these issues while also encompassing a broader and positive vision for the future
for OAC and Ontario’s arts sector.
