Summary
Covid gave Concerts in Care Ontario a silver lining of government funding aimed at reducing seniors’ isolation and increasing activities. The spotlight is falling off our seniors and with it the funding, despite the fact that little has changed, especially in the Long-Term/Memory Care world. Competition for private fund sources is fierce.
Demand is present and growing for far more than the current 400 concerts per year that we present in the GTA, Ottawa, Sudbury, Windsor, Hamilton, and London, plus touring and video concerts.
We need an assessment of our current status in professional fund development terms, and a specific 3-year plan with strategies and tactics to allow us to start meeting the demand.
Concerts in Care Ontario presents professional musical programming that brings joy, relief, and beauty to a range of seniors’ care communities across Ontario. Our concerts provide a focal point for building bridges between elders, caregivers and family while engaging powerful emotions which activate memory and improve mood for seniors who may be isolated and withdrawn. We curate concerts performed exclusively by top-calibre professional musicians. Managers know that our turnkey service is as excellent as the music.
We serve long-term & memory care, assisted & independent living, and palliative care facilities, and seniors living at home who are members of Seniors’ Active Living Centres (SALCs). In March 2023, we launched a series with Homes First where homeless seniors comprise 50% of the population, and we conducted our first three tours to underserved centres, including our first exchanges with indigenous communities.
We now deliver across five channels: In person, both inside and outdoors; live interactive Zoom concerts, free virtual recorded concerts, and touring.
However, our growth has limits because we subsidize 90% of the concerts we produce.
We will deliver 440 concerts in 2023.
