During the July 2015 City Council meeting, City Council voted to merge operations of the Hummingbird (Sony) Centre for the Performing Arts, the St. Lawrence Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Toronto Centre for the Arts together under one newly formed entity – Civic Theatres Toronto. In the short term, each theatre board has been dissolved and the organization is being run by an interim board of directors consisting of five City Councillors. Outreach is ongoing to recruit and appoint eight public board members by early November.
The new Civic Theatres Toronto Board is an exciting opportunity to build something new and be a part of consolidating the three previously existing boards. Applicants with an interest in marketing, sponsorship, financial management, public-private partnerships, and labour relations, as well as theatre and production are desired.
