Carousel Players: Request for Proposals for a Three Stage Planning Project

Carousel Players will engage one or more consultants or consulting firms to undertake a three-part planning process to guide the organization through June 30, 2027.
The three elements of this project are
• A Strategic Plan for the company’s theatre for young audiences work and community engagement
• A Business Plan for the Carousel Players Theatre School
• A Governance Review of Carousel Players’ current board structure with recommendations to bring it in line with the company’s strategic goals.

Project Objectives and End Use
Carousel Players’ most recent strategic plan expired in 2020, and the company has experienced major changes during the Covid-19 pandemic. As we return to in-person performances and education programs, it is clear that the economic and social environment for our work has changed. At the same time, Carousel Players has begun to connect with entirely new communities in recent years through our new Theatre School and outreach programming to increase community engagement, but the growth of these programs has been far more rapid than anticipated.
Currently, Carousel Players is being reactive, not strategic, in our choices, putting a strain our ability to fulfil the company’s mandate, generate sufficient income, and maintain vibrant relationships with our audiences, donors, and partners.
The three elements of this planning process will provide Carousel Players’ Board, staff, and stakeholders with information and time needed to consider how the company and its work fit into the wider context of the cultural sector, the education sector, and the Niagara community. The resulting reports will inform funding applications to all levels of government and to foundations, sponsors, and donors.
The plans developed will provide Carousel Players the strategies, values, and goals necessary to confidently begin our next fifty years of bringing theatre to young people.
