Canadian Crafts Federation / Fédération Canadienne des métiers d’art: 10 Digit technology: Understanding Material & Digital Realities

Ten Digit Technology is a multi-phase initiative designed to assist, support and guide craft organizations in taking effective steps toward concrete improvements in their digital connectivity. With a solid network of craft organizations already in place and an expressed desire to demystify digital opportunities, this initiative will benefit craft organizations struggling to utilize a largely intangible digital environment to promote the very tactile medium of craft. By coming together to identify barriers, learn about possibilities, and create functional and informed strategies, we can better engage with a digitally connected public.

The CCF/FCMA requires a visionary for this project. Our end game is undefined, but our needs are clear: to conduct broad, unbiased consultation with the Canadian craft community by implementing a human-centered design process. This consultation will further define the problems currently faced by the sector, learn from the people involved, generate tangible reports that identify potential future solutions, and formalize recommendations for future development to improve the quality and effectiveness of craft programming. The creation of prototypes will be a valuable tool for the communication of findings and are a welcome addition if the advance the aims of the project.

This RFP focuses on the discovery phase only. It is the first of four phases of development: Discovery, Design & Development, Implementation and Review.
